Job Summary 

Under direct supervision, assists in determining employer liability for unemployment coverage, registering subject employers, and maintaining their accounts.  Assists in investigating disputed cases. Reviews business documents to ensure account information is accurate and updated. Notifies employers about rates, underpayment or overpayment of taxes.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

Assists in the review of documents and identifies any changes to the employer accounts. Registers, updates and applies appropriate tax codes to employer’s account to make determinations of whether an employer is liable for unemployment taxes.  

Assists in the review of, and enters, employer’s quarterly and annual wage reports and remittances into the database.  Processes payment method changes.  Notifies employers of missing wage reports.   

Computes contributions, interests, and penalties that are due. Assists in notifying employers about overpayment, underpayment, and issues a refund or request for further payment. Assists in the investigation and research on cases that are disputed.   

Maintains database containing records for each case, including payments, contacts, telephone numbers, and actions taken. Retrieves these records upon request.

Core Competencies  

Knowledge and understanding of the Unemployment Compensation Acts, relative rules and established policies and procedures.

Ability to effectively interact with the public, responding promptly to inquiries and/or complaints.

Ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner; present conclusions and supporting rationale; and verify value of evidence.  

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing and the ability to prepare hearing briefs and memorandums.

Job Summary 

Under general supervision, registers employers and determines liability for unemployment taxes and maintaining their accounts. Investigates and resolves issues and disputed cases. Makes recommendations for abatement of penalties, interest, fees. Reviews required documents to ensure account information is accurate and updated. Notifies employers about rates, underpayment or overpayment.  Analyzes accounts and recommends resolution and required transactions to supervisor for approval.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

Reviews and examines audit reports, agency registration forms, payroll records, journal entries, general ledgers, and other documents to determine agency liability for unemployment tax.

Investigates disputed cases and ensures that claimants and agencies are notified about their tax payment status.

Makes recommendations to modify and update company policies and procedures to comply with the laws.  Advises and explains provisions of the unemployment compensation act, federal laws, policies, and procedures pertaining to liability determinations, redeterminations, and reconsiderations.   

Conducts audits and assists in highly complex audits by examining and analyzing employer records, ledgers, and journals to determine compliance with unemployment tax law.

Core Competencies  

Thorough knowledge of the Unemployment Compensation Act, established policies and procedures. Demonstrated skill in auditing, investigative techniques, procedures and methods.  

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with using Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards practices.  

Demonstrated skill and the ability to conduct audits and prepare reports utilizing logic and reasoning to analyze and assess data to make decisions and form a logical conclusion.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Excellent ability to articulate and convey findings.

Job Summary 

Under limited supervision, conducts employer audits to determine compliance with the unemployment tax law. Reviews the calculations of employer's tax obligations.  Assists employers with filing of reports and amended reports. Analyzes, interprets, and issues determinations and redeterminations of the identified rates. Conducts collection procedures against delinquent accounts to include; issuing subpoenas and placing liens against employers.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

Conducts complex audits, reviews reports, employer registration forms, payroll records, and other related documents to determine employer liability for unemployment tax. Reviews and responds to employer’s complaints about the status of accounts and payments.

Conducts collection procedures against delinquent accounts, prepares appropriate documentation to place liens and issue subpoenas to employers.  Establishes deferred payment plans for employers.

Reviews the calculations of employer's tax obligations and makes compliance determinations and audits accounting batches. Analyzes, interprets, and issues determinations and redeterminations of the identified rates.  

Amends employer filings based on audit findings or redeterminations; makes liability determinations and prepares wage reports.

Explains provisions of the District unemployment compensation act, federal laws, policies, and procedures pertaining to liability determinations, redeterminations, and reconsiderations to employers and other interested parties.
