Job Summary 

Under fairly, close supervision, the work and tasks are most often straightforward, routine, structured and guided by established policies and procedures.  Assignments are concerned with the execution and enforcement of multitude traffic and safety regulations and codes of the District of Columbia. Monitors and patrols the DC streets, in an assigned area, on foot or in a vehicle to cite illegally vehicles; to enforce motor vehicle regulations; and to explains traffic regulations.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

Enforces and explains motor vehicle traffic regulation. Issues citations or warnings to violators of moving and non-moving motor vehicle and pedestrian.  

Issues citations or warnings to violators of moving and non-moving motor vehicle and pedestrian laws, ordinances and regulations.

Identifies conflicting and/or missing parking signs, traffic control signs, and any malfunctioning traffic signal issues.

Submits a written account of the sign and traffic signal locations to appropriate official(s) for action. 

Core Competencies  

Knowledge of the basic provisions of public safety and security.  

Basic knowledge of investigative methods and techniques.

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Job Summary 

Under general supervision, performs technical and analytical work concerned with the execution and enforcement of multitude traffic and safety regulations and codes of the District   of Columbia (DC). The day-to-day activities involve moderately complex tasks that are quite varied. Responsible for ensuring the safe flow and operation of vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic by directing and rerouting traffic; and enforcing moving and non-moving motor vehicle laws and regulations.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

Monitors and patrols the DC streets in an assigned area on foot or in a vehicle to cite illegally parked vehicles.

Enforces and explains motor vehicle traffic regulation. Issues citations or warnings to violators of moving and non-moving motor vehicle and pedestrian.  

Advises on transportation matters; and provides information and direction to motorists and pedestrians.  

Investigates requests for parking enforcement services, and determines if there is a violation, then takes the appropriate action.

Identifies conflicting and/or missing parking signs, traffic control signs, and any malfunctioning traffic signal issues.

Responds in an expeditious time to special assignments or reassignments, when directed by supervisor. 

Core Competencies  

Knowledge of the provisions of public safety and security; and the laws, regulations, and codes regarding traffic control and enforcement operation.

Knowledge of investigative, and interviewing techniques; and skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques.  

Knowledge of geographical layout of the District of Columbia.

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
