Job Summary 

Under direct supervision, works as a member of a crew providing street and alley cleaning, bulk collection services, trash disposal services, or other collections and disposal functions, following regularly established route.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

Assists with ground maintenance.  Provides cleaning, mowing and cutting, nuisance battement, etc.

Brooms, loads, or picks up trash containers and either lifts or dumps in compactor truck.  

Empties street trash containers, and cleans refuse spilled in performance of duties.

Pushes button on rear of compactor truck, or orally signals driver when refuse is in place and men are clear of the truck.

Clears ice and snow from public spaces; may work on truck spreading abrasive and chemicals and shoveling snow.

Reports irregularities, hazards, and regulation infractions.

Core Competencies  

Ability to utilize a variety of equipment and tools, such as: rakes, shovels, hoes, hand trucks, brooms, leaf blowers, power washer, and lawnmower,  

Ability to read basic signs and instructions as well as follow basic instruction
 
Ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements

Basic Qualifications   

Degree Required: None.

Work Experience: Specialized work experience directly related to the position.

Job Summary 

Under general supervision, performs the full range of assignments.  As a member of a crew, provides street and alley cleaning, bulk collection services, trash disposal services, or other collections and disposal functions. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

Takes containers to the rear of the compactor and deposits trash in hopper of the truck; and returns containers after emptied.

Collects yard waste, small bulk items and sweeps alleys; shovels debris into cart; loads trash on trucks; and cleans spillage.

Operates levers/pushes buttons on rear of compactor or orally signals driver when refuse is in place and crewmembers are clear of truck.

Assists driver with maneuvering; and may be required to direct vehicle traffic in emergency situations.

Provides assistance to drivers in vehicle cleaning and dumping trash from the collection vehicle at transfer stations.

Clears ice and snow from public spaces; and may work on truck spreading abrasive and chemicals, and shovels snow.

Reports irregularities, hazards, and regulation infractions.

Core Competencies

Ability to read basic signs and instructions as well as follow basic instructions.

Ability to exerts oneself physically over long periods of time without tiring, lifting, and moving various weighted objects.  

Ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.
