Job Summary 

Under general supervision, participates in the planning, designing and inspection of projects including, but not limited to; roadway, bridge or tunnel construction, and prepares preliminary designs and blueprints.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

Utilizes an established project management process to complete civil engineering tasks.  

Conducts field investigations and surveys to determine the strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt or steel.  

Computes material stress factors and load/grade requirements to determine design specifications.

Participates in the inspection of various construction projects.

Participates in the preparation of work plans and helps estimate cost of materials, equipment or labor in order to determine project feasibility.

Core Competencies  

Professional knowledge of civil engineering theories, principles, practices and techniques.  

Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, and standards related to assigned projects.

Ability to oversee and manage projects and interpret policies and business practices used in initiating, designing and managing engineering projects. 

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements  

Must possess and maintain a Professional Engineers License granted in the District of Columbia.

Basic Qualifications   

Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering area (e.g., Structural or Mechanical Engineering).

Work Experience: Specialized work experience directly related to the position.

Job Summary 

Under general supervision, plans, designs, inspects and monitors projects including, but not limited to, roadway, bridge or tunnel construction. Resolves  the  more  difficult  situations  involving  multiple technical  elements,  political,  safety  and  security  implications,  variations  or  conflicts  in application and interpretation of engineering strategies.

Major Duties and Responsibilities 

Develops a project management process to complete civil engineering tasks. Drafts designs and blueprints, determines design specifications, and assists in the preparation of contract work plans, estimation of cost of materials, and equipment or labor to determine project feasibility.

Collaborates with contractors to resolve project issues and provides technical assistance regarding design, construction or program modifications and/or repairs (e.g., drainage, structural, safety). Develops specifications and estimates cost of materials, equipment and labor.

Conducts field investigations and surveys to determine the strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt or steel. Inspects various construction projects.

Monitors construction methodologies and work in progress and reviews reports to ensure compliance of standard procedures. Schedules field technicians and inspectors.
