Job Summary
Under direct supervision, performs ongoing review of development related projects with a focus on ensuring full implementation of all applicable tree preservation and protection laws, regulations, and ordinance. Also, may perform on-site inspection of urban tree populations and support.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Reviews tree removal permit applications for compliance with applicable regulations. Participates regularly in pre-application and pre-construction meetings.
Evaluates and assesses hazardous trees and applies the appropriate method for tree preservation or removal.
Conducts field inspections of landscape projects to determine compliance with designs, plans, specifications, and conditions of approval.
Provides information to general public, permit applicants, and public officials, and attend meetings regarding the District’s tree regulations ad policies.
Resolves disputes and facilitates consensus on issues pertaining to trees and serves as a technical resource to District officials involved in dispute resolutions.
Core Competencies
Knowledge and understanding of the principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques of forestry management in an urban setting.
Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, local environmental laws, regulations, and other guidance to make decisions and recommendations concerning assigned tree preservation, restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention, and/or integration principles and practices.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, civil site plan drawings, and other technical reporting formats related to engineering, tree preservation and land development.
Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, and monitor tree maintenance projects to ensure compliance with applicable objectives, standards, and requirements.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Basic Qualifications
Degree Required: Degree in forestry; or a related subject-matter field that includes at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours of course work were in forestry. The curriculum must have been sufficiently diversified to include courses in each of the following areas: (1) Management of Renewable Resources, (2) Forest Biology, and (3) Forest Resource Measurements and Inventory; or
A combination of education and/or experience in a related field.

Job Summary
Under limited supervision, performs assignments that involve on-site inspection of urban tree population. Responsible for the development, planning, and application of urban forestry methods and practices that are directed towards the establishment, restoration, and conservation of urban forestry.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Performs on the ground examination and analyses of urban forest areas to determine areas required short- or long-range treatment in terms of the total ecosystem.
Conducts detailed urban forest planning investigations and inventory to identify characteristic and quantity of trees in the area.
Determines present and projected resource use. Provides data on the magnitude and location of tree problems. Collects data to assist in identifying, classifying, and describing resource-based problems and needs.
Assists in preparing environmental impact statements for specific projects. Identifies and evaluates the relative effectiveness of conservation land treatment measures.
Provides technical assistance to individual property owners in the development, application, and maintenance of soil and tree preservation plans, prevention, control, or eradication of a variety of tree diseases, and the use of pesticides.

Job Summary

Assists in planning, designing and managing landscape and construction projects with a focus on streetscape designs and public spaces. Analyzes data and creates reports relevant to the management and maintenance of the urban tree canopy.
Reviews urban design plans and specifications and ensures public space is appropriately used for development of specific sites in compliance with District and agency policies and guidelines, and industry standards.
Manages inventory, performs inspections to evaluate the condition of the canopy of trees in the assigned area and schedules services including tree plantings, removal, and pruning.
Plans, works and coordinates with other administrations concerning tree preservation.

Job Summary
Under limited guidance, serves as a Lead Forester for a ward-based team that performs assignments involving on-site inspections of urban tree populations. Responsible for the development, planning, and application of urban forestry methods and practices that are directed towards the establishment, restoration, and conservation of urban forestry.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as a lead and technical resource expert for issues and matters pertaining to the overall development and maintenance of forest-land management for the District of Columbia.
Reviews and analyzes urban forest conditions throughout the District of Columbia through personal visits. Determines the type of urban forestry conservation practices is required in accordance with acceptable scientific methodology and administrative policy.
Develops new procedures or techniques for application to particular conservation and management problems. Provides on-the-job training and professional mentoring for newly assigned foresters.
Ensures that the Administration’s strategic plan, mission, vision, and values are communicated to the team, and integrated into the team’s strategies, goals, objectives, work plans, and work.
Monitors and reports on the status of work. Checks and reviews work is in accordance with supervisor’s instructions, governing laws, regulations, policies, procedures, priorities, methods, deadlines, and quality.

Expert knowledge of applicable Federal, state, local environmental laws, regulations, and other guidance to make decisions and recommendations concerning assigned tree preservation, restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention, and/or integration principles and practices.
Demonstrated skill and expertise related to disciplines such as landscape architecture, hydrology, soil science and wildlife habitat management sufficient to incorporate knowledges and techniques from these disciplines in the urban forest conservation plans and programs.
